We are heavily involved in charity bike rides (click here for further info or scroll down), and we also run shop bike rides.

All of our rides are guided by experienced cyclists.
We do make a £1.00 charge for participation, which is donated to charity.
We offer a free safety check on all new participants' bikes.
Please contact Nigel on 0208 300 8113 if you have any questions about the rides.

Saturday Rides

Our Saturday rides now run all the way through the year.

We will take you into the picturesque Darenth Valley, easily accessible from Sidcup, with a wealth of relatively quiet roads.

As we pass through villages like Swanley, Sutton at Hone, Farningham, South Darenth and Crockenhill, you'll have the opportunity to enjoy the beauties of a corner of Kent that is often overlooked ...

We meet on Saturday mornings at Sidcup Cycle Centre for a cup of tea or coffee before we depart - give Nigel a call on 0208 300 8113 for timings, as these vary a liitle bit through the year to allow for weather, light, etc.

We have three speed groups, each led by an experienced rider.
These are a social rides, and not races, so if you are looking for some amiable company, help with how to climb hills and which gears to use, or how to gain confidence riding on the roads, then come and join us!
On the last Saturday of each month we have a special 10 mile ride for the complete beginner.

The speed groups are:

  • Novice - 15 mile route led at average 14mph
  • Intermediate - 35 mile route led at average 14mph
  • Advanced - 55 mile route led at an average 18mph

    Ladies Rides

As of 2nd February 2008, we'll run a "Ladies Only" ride on a Saturday morning for those ladies who would prefer to ride in solely female company. The ride will follow a different route to the other rides.

    Thursday Rides

During the longer evenings of the late Spring, Summer and early Autumn months, we have a Thursday evening ride.
Keep an eye on the website for the date when these will start.
We ride in a single group on a Thursday night, departing the shop at 19.00hrs. The average pace is around 15mph, but it is very much a "no-drop" social ride with plenty of opportunity for regrouping along the route as needed.

For all rides, we'd ask that you arrive & see Nigel early if you have any potential mechanical issues.
We'd also like to ask that you bring a spare tube with you, and we advise the wearing of an approved safety helmet.

  • Charity rides:

Sidcup Cycle Centre are very active in the support of Charity rides. We spend several weeks of every year on the road, looking after the mechanical needs of a wide variety of riders. This gives us a very good feel for the sorts of questions that charity bike riders often ask, and the problems that they sometimes face "on the road" - which we can then translate into advice.

Probably our biggest commitment is to the Royal British Legion (RBL) rides that are staged throughout the Spring and Summer. With the annual Paris ride, and a range of other events spread through Europe (which have included rides to, or based in, Normandy, the Ardennes, Lausanne and many others), riders on these trips can be assured of a cycling-friendly environment to ride in, superb scenery, and top-notch back-up from out team of CyTech accredited mechanics.

To find out more about the Legion, please use the links to the top right. If you have participated in a RBL bike ride, take a peek in our gallery - you may see yourself - and if you are contemplating a charity ride, take a look at the gallery too - you'll see how much the riders that we welcome on the rides enjoy themselves ... and if that motivates you to find out more, the link to RBL bike rides will give you information not just about the events, but also basic advice on equipment, how to prepare, how to raise sponsorship and the 101 other questions that may spring to mind. Of course we'd love to see you in the shop and advise you on any aspect of any ride!
