The Shop Workshop

We are focussed on excellence in our workshop provision, and have spent a great deal of time and effort to ensure that we are properly equipped in both material and knowledge terms to offer all of our customers the standard of service that they have every right to expect.

One of our key commitments is to train our staff to the highest available standards. This is especially relevant in the workshop environment where bicycles for all uses are being prepared for sale, or maintained and repaired. In all cases, we are acutely aware that bicycles are potentially both road and off road vehicles and as such need to be correctly serviced, to the manufacturer's specifications, prior to use.

To this end, all of our staff are trained to CyTech standards - this progressive qualification system being backed by all of the major cycle and component manufacturers, as well as the Association of Cycle Traders, an organisation in which we are very active.

We know from our experiences on charity rides that not all shops take their responsibilities for mechanical excellence as seriously as we do - so next time you are wondering where to get your pride and joy tweaked or serviced for a charity ride or buy a new bike wanting to be secure in the knowledge that it has been properly set up before it leaves the shop, think of Sidcup Cycle Centre first!

Park Tool School

The Park Tool School Syllabus is a two-day course which covers a full strip down of the bike, service and maintainence of all the parts, followed of course by re-assembly and correct adjustment. For more information click here. Course timings are 9.00am to 6.00pm with a 45 minute break for lunch each day. Light refreshments are included. Braodly speaking, by the end of day 1 we aim to have bikes stripped down and all the parts cleaned, so that on day 2 we can reassemble and adjust. There is more theory on day one, and lots of practice on day 2! The course is led by the (maximum 2) participants, so that we can tune the course content to a great extent, to what you want or need to know, within the structure of the Park Tool School. Cost is £245.00 in advance. Please use the booking form here to book your place.

One Day Roadside Maintainence Course

This is aimed at riders who feel the need for the security of knowing what to do "when things go wrong" - from a puncture to a broken spoke, from gears out of adjustment to a broken chain. This is a one day course, running from 10.00am to 4.00pm, with light refreshments provided, and incuding a 30 - 45 minute break for lunch (there is an excellent cafe-deli nearby ....) Cost is £35.00 per head in adavance and places are limited to 12 participants per course. Please use the booking form below to reserve your place, and we'll contact you with regard to final details and payment.

In both cases attendees will have the option to work on their own bikes or on cycles that we provide. If you took your bike to your local independent bicycle retailer, who then under took to carry out all the work covered in the Park Tool School course, you would pay £80-£100!

Available course dates can be seen on our sign-up form here.

Testimonials

Park Tool School

Here are some comments from participants in previous classes run at Sidcup Cycle Centre's workshop with tuition by Graeme and Nigel:

"I thoroughly enjoyed the course, and thought the length was optimum"

"There is nothing to improve - I was most impressed with the course overall"

"This course was perfect - The content was excellent as was the instructor's knowledge. The hosts were both welcoming and inspiring"

"The course has improved my knowledge and confidence no end"

"I was impressed by the fact that even where there was a hiccup caused by the condition of one of the [candidates's] bikes, it didn't seem to throw the instructors - they just worked through the problem in front of us. I do a lot of training courses for work and normally in our training courses, any unexpected problem causes mass panic!"

1 Day Roadside Maintenance Course

"Just to say thanks for yesterday. I found the course to be very informative and good value for money.
Before doing the course, I thought I had a fairly decent knowledge of how a bike was set up and how its components worked. However, I found that there was a lot I didn't know and so came away feeling that I had learned a lot.
The knowledge I gained from the course has given me the confidence to take my bike maintenance further. From now on, I will definitely have a go at doing more maintenance / adjusting myself."

We ask all of our course participants to score us on various aspects of the courses and their delivery - the current average overall is 97.5%, last updated 30th August 2007.
